We have been called “spiritual refugees.” A refugee is defined as “someone who has been forced to leave or who flees, especially to escape danger or persecution.” Each of us has our own story about how we were “called out” of the brick-and-mortar church and invited on a journey of the heart with Jesus as our guide. We were not so much running away from the institution, but into the arms of Jesus.

We have a regular meeting time, but it is more like a family gathering than a “service.” We share a meal together and reconnect in fellowship. We live life together and connect frequently outside of the weekly gathering by taking each other to doctor appointments, smaller, more intimate gatherings of the few, and the occasional paintball outing or horseback lesson.

The teaching time is, for the most part, interactive. It is possible that one person may prepare to lead the discussion, but all, including the children, are encouraged to participate. We sit in a circle and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us as we work out and put words to our faith. We worship through song . . . sometimes. At other times our worship is thanksgiving, where we tell and retell our stories. Sometimes someone in the group needs prayer and we just do that. We trust that those who are supposed to be there, are, and that the Holy Spirit will direct our path.

We are a group of people interested in depth of relationship, both with each other and with God, and not in growth by numbers. We pool our resources together to give them away, and not to pay a mortgage or for elaborate video equipment and have managed to hold to our “give away 90% and operate on 10%” goal.

Major influences in our journey include John Eldredge, Wayne Jacobsen, and John Lynch (TrueFaced), among others.
