About

This site is a New Zealand hub for the worldwide culture of reconnecting men to God’s epic adventure of real life based on the humble ministry of John & Stasi Eldredge and 10 others based in Colorado.  A wealth of more info. here https://wildatheart.org

gallipoli_anzac_chargeThe masthead is a famous photo of ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand Army Corp) infantry bayonet-charging a Turkish trench at Gallipoli in 1915.  Aussies and Kiwis have always fought together, and this image represents warriors, our shared culture of “mateship,” being in a battle, and supporting one another. Gallipoli was a ghastly cauldron and it marred and shaped Australian and New Zealand identity.  The commemoration of that gritty military catastrophe designed by Winston Churchill (who is the masthead of my main personal blog) is more popular today than in 1915.  But Down Under we do not hate Turks.. General Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was the brilliant general facing us at Gallipoli and went on to found modern Turkey.  His men fought bravely and desperately. His wise words at the Anzac memorial inscribed in stone at Gallipoli capture the essence of Wild@Heart.

Gallipoli - Memorial at Anzac Cove by Ataturk.<br /> "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives…<br /> You are now living in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours…<br /> You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."<br /> Ataturk, 1934

Gallipoli Memorial at Anzac Cove put there by Ataturk and the peoples of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand after the horrors.

“Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives… You are now living in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours… You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.” ~ Ataturk, 1934.

Of all the ministries I came across while a pastor in New Zealand, Ransomed Heart stood out for its grip on reality, its sense of humour, yet the very deep and meaningful change it is able to wrought in willing participants.  It is LIFE, not the latest fashionable “thing” or “programme,” and has been going for many years.

So, this site is a first connection point for folks interested, who live in the real Middle-Earth.

Initially I will be running small group teaching sessions for guys, within the context of my own large (devastated) church in Christchurch with the support and endorsement of our leaders; expanding from there to include other men across any church in our city; then outside the church; with a view to eventually running intimate Boot Camps (20 men) in the wilds of New Zealand and showin’ those Coloradans what real ‘manning up’ is (and what a real trout looks like).  Argh Argh (good humoured mock box). This is also an online connection point: blog, email, Fb etc. where people can share and support each other as I am already doing with dozens of men across the globe. Together we are strong, as iron sharpens iron.

But we will crawl, walk, run, in that order.

  • Church small groups teaching and sharing using Wild@Heart materials and wisdom.
  • Email Blog, Fb connections.
  • Cross-church bigger events and reaching out to non-churched guys, too.
  • South Island/North Island Boot Camps in time.
  • Books/resources/stuff if I can hook that up with Colorado and we can get $ flowing from givers in time, to make material available to men.

See you in the Field or at the Feast. Stumbling forward but with my eyes fixed on the Right Stuff.

John Stringer (wild man), Christchurch, New Zealand.
